The problem is that the are some “unknowns” that no diet, or the now even more popular - sugar detoxes, address.

All of these diets and detoxes offer quick results, but we have to move beyond that and focus on lasting results.

A dramatic example of the challenges of maintaining weight loss comes from a recent National Institutes of Health study. The researchers followed 14 contestants who had participated in the “Biggest Loser” reality show.

During the 30 weeks of the show, the contestants lost an average of over 125 pounds per person. But in the six years after the show, all but one gained back most of their lost weight!

There are many, many university studies that show the exact same thing happens to the average dieter.

Detoxes are not a permanent fix, sugar detoxes only address part of the problem .
  •  Detoxing does not equal long term results. Just like committing to exercise for one week doesn’t mean you’ll exercise. 
  •  Just because you’ve been able to avoid sugar for 30 days, by whatever means, the real challenge has just begun. 
  •  You’re actually more vulnerable at day 30 than you were at the start. Because of your lifelong emotional connection to sugar.
  •  Detoxing does not equal long term results. Just like committing to exercise for one week doesn’t mean you’ll exercise. 
  •  Just because you’ve been able to avoid sugar for 30 days, by whatever means, the real challenge has just begun. 
  •  You’re actually more vulnerable at day 30 than you were at the start. Because of your lifelong emotional connection to sugar.
Some folks can make it through the detox. They’ll see a little weight loss, sometimes a LOT of weight loss, they’ll feel better, look better, sleep better.

Then the trouble starts --- and you know this statistic, it’s over 90% --- in the ability to maintain both the weight loss and the sugar control.  

Remember that scientific fact that over 90% of people who lose significant amounts of weight gain it all back and most add a few pounds extra! See The Biggest Loser study above and there are many more university studies that say the same thing! 
So what would the perfect detox actually look like?
Of course a good detox will give an overview of what you can and can not eat. The trouble is that all the detoxes and diets out there ONLY tell you this and then make a big deal of the recipes. 

It’s like you’re just going to another category of food:  

“Oh, I’m transitioning to my healthy phase.” Creating foods that “look like the foods you can’t eat” (read: “that trigger me to ACTUALLY eat said foods…”) 

Also they focus on, even naming their detoxes this way, just the time period, like - “The 13 and a Half Day Detox" or some such nonsense. 

It’s hogwash. 

Heck, anybody can “white knuckle," bite their tongue,  go a few weeks, lose a few pounds and temporarily feel better about ourselves.

And most of us HAVE. 

The issue is not detoxing and stopping for a few days or weeks - it’s lifetime control and lifestyle change. 
Some of you may have already read our 36 page PDF “The Easy Four Quadrant Sugar Detox.” If not here’s a quick recap:

Most detoxes focus on just two things: The food and a certain time frame like 10 day or 21 days. All their emails have pretty pictures of food you used to make with sugar - and their attempts to make them sugar free… those attempts just “trigger” you to further desire sugar! 
The problem is there are Three (3) other components of a sugar detox that MUST be present for you to succeed.
1. You must understand what changes will happen to your mind and emotions in the process.
  • You will be emotional.
  •  You may be inexplicably weepy.
  • You may feel angry for no reason.
  • You may fee possibly sad for no reason.
  •  You may be depressed a little. Not to worry it’s not a mental issue it’s a physical withdrawal symptom.
  •  The stress will likely feel unbearable at times. 
  •  A feeling of “Impending Doom” may envelop you for a few days.
  •  When the only thing you can think of is your favorite sugar treat. That should be the biggest clue ever!
  • You will be emotional.
  •  You may be inexplicably weepy.
  • You may feel angry for no reason.
  • You may fee possibly sad for no reason.
  •  You may be depressed a little. Not to worry it’s not a mental issue it’s a physical withdrawal symptom.
  •  The stress will likely feel unbearable at times. 
  •  A feeling of “Impending Doom” may envelop you for a few days.
  •  When the only thing you can think of is your favorite sugar treat. That should be the biggest clue ever!
2.  You must literally “train” your family and “control” your environment. (including your work space) This is a big one and most people shy away from even trying it.  We make it easy.
3. And finally you must deeply understand what you need in terms of taking care of yourself and building a support system around you to help in the tough times - and there will be tough times!
**And just so you know, and I want to stress this, you can NOT exercise your way out of this regardless of what you’ve heard… So put your running shoes away.

I find that the idea of genuine self-care is so foreign to the people I help that it is a very common sticking point we spend a lot of time working on together.
With all the diet and weight loss information online today that has now bled into the sugar world as a “detox” - it’s enough to confuse anyone.

What I really wanted was a comprehensive, step by step solution to this issue of, not the short term detox, but how to succeed in the long term - how to make controlling sugar a long term lifestyle change.
